46 Organizations Collaborating on MCC’s Next Strategic Plan

Over 100 students, community stakeholders, board/committee members, and employees joined MCC President, Dr. Dale Nesbary, during a 7/19 Zoom meeting this month to launch the planning process for MCC 2022-2026 Strategic Plan.  To date, 142 people volunteered for a committee, including 54 community members representing 46 organizations.  Information about the planning process is available at

Early College Mentor Among Future 15 Award Recipients

Jamar Ragland, mentor for MCC’s Early College of Muskegon Program and strategic planning co-chair, was recognized as one of 15 outstanding and upcoming young professionals by the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce.  Those recognized excel both within their place of employment and in the service they provide to the community.  Jamar receives his award at an outdoor ceremony on August 12.  Meet Jamar and read more about the award.

Biology Student Studies Ryerson Creek Stream Health

MCC Student, Weston Dulyea, recently had the opportunity to work on a project with MCC Biology Instructor, Matt Cooper, to sample macroinvertebrates from Ryerson Creek in evaluating stream health after restoration.  In total, they collected 1,800 bugs.  This project is in collaboration with the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission (WMSRDC) and Michigan Department of Environment Energy and Great Lakes.  See the related Facebook post.

Students Excelling at MCC

MCC places full-time students who achieve a 4.0 grade-point average on the President’s List.  Full-time students who earn a 3.5 gpa are placed on the Dean’s List (or on the Academic Honors List if attending half-time).  See those who earned these honors for the Winter 2021 semester.   

MCC Offering Free COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

Muskegon Community College will host five COVID-19 vaccine clinics in August and September.  The vaccines are offered at the Health and Wellness Center on the main campus and at the Sturrus Technology Center in downtown Muskegon.  MCC joined the national COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge, an initiative coordinated by the White House and the U.S. Department of Education earlier this year.  Get details for the vaccine clinics

MCC Accomplishing Goals  

MCC’s 2017-2022 plan is on track to conclude six months early on December 31, 2021.  To date,  we've completed 97 objectives and our plan is 90% complete.  Some accomplishments include:

  • Maintaining student satisfaction at 4% higher than the national average (objective 1.01.01)
  • Implementation of software that makes it easy to apply for 65 scholarships with one application (objective 1.02.04)
  • Opening the new Ottawa Center facility (objective 2.06.07)
  • Providing students with access to 110 laptops to support remote-learning (objective 3.15.10)
  • Provided students with access to 60 Wi-Fi hot spot devices (objective 3.15.11)
  • Improving navigation at main campus by renumbering rooms and installing over 900 signs (objective 3.12.02)
  • Completing each fiscal year within budget (objective 5.23.01)
