MCC President, Dr. Dale Nesbary, Seeks Feedback on Goals at Nov. 1 Forum

For the past five months, 147 students, employees, and community stakeholders from 46 organizations served on five planning committees to help identify goals and objectives for MCC’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan.  Dr. Nesbary and members of the MCC Integrated Planning Steering Committee will present the results of this process and will seek community feedback on proposed goals at a Strategic Plan Preview Forum 4-5pm Monday, November 1.  Get event details and Zoom link

MCC to Award an Additional $2,291,400 in HEERF Funds to Qualified Students

Muskegon Community College recently announced that it was distributing an additional $2,615,150 to 3,695 qualified students through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) and American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).  Upon further review of the award criteria and category for which each student qualified, the total award amount was adjusted to $2,291,400.  Read more.

MCC Center for Theater Presents “Young Frankenstein” Oct. 28-31

The Muskegon Community College Center for Theater will present a musical adaption of Mel Brooks’ 1974 film “Young Frankenstein,” a parody of the classic horror film genre, in the Overbrook Theater on Oct. 28-31.  Get show times and ticket information.

MCC President Receives Community Foundation’s First-Ever Impact Award

The Community Foundation for Muskegon County presented its first-ever Impact Award to Muskegon Community College President, Dr. Dale Nesbary.  The Impact Award recognizes a community leader who "has gone above and beyond to advance educational attainment, foster a dynamic local economy, enhance community trust, and promote prosperity."  Read more about the award.

Business Students Sponsored at Chamber Event

Comerica Bank sponsored six business students at the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce “Business for Breakfast” event.  The students enjoyed networking with other business professionals and presentations related to the future of transportation.  Some of the students are shown above with Chamber President, Cindy Larsen (far right).

Muskegon Community College History Instructors George Maniates and Kurt Troutman will discuss “The Influenza of 1918 and COVID-19 Pandemics that Impacted the U.S. and the World” at the Montague Branch Library.  Get event details.

Free Assistance with Financial Aid Applications on Fridays

In support of institutional goal #2 to “Increase awareness of and improve systems related to financial aid, scholarships, and other funding sources,” MCC offers FAFSA Fridays, a free event for anyone to get help with completing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.  Get dates and details for FAFSA Fridays.

Student Mental Health Group Works to Support Student Wellbeing

The Active Minds Student Group is a nonprofit national organization supporting mental health awareness and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.  Read more about MCC’s Active Minds chapter.
