Graduates Celebrated at May 4 Commencement

Muskegon Community College will replicate last year’s popular and interactive drive-through ceremony on campus when MCC celebrates its 2022 Commencement rain or shine on Wednesday, May 4.  188 graduates will participate in the ceremony.  Two students from Ottawa County, Alexis Scott of Holland and Alexis Tater of Grand Haven, will deliver videotaped remarks on behalf of the Class of 2022.  Read more about the 2022 graduation ceremony and the student speakers.

Dr. John Selmon Selected as New MCC President

The Muskegon Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously in a special meeting on April 27, selecting Dr. John Selmon as the college’s next president.  Dr. Selmon currently serves as the Provost/Executive Vice President and has been with the college for 11 years.  He will assume office on July 1, 2022, when Dr. Dale Nesbary officially retires after 13 years in office.  Learn more about Dr. Selmon’s background and the search process. 

MCC to Compete in Esports Starting in Fall 2022

MCC will be launching an Esports intercollegiate athletic program in the Fall 2022 semester but will begin the recruiting process now.  “Already presenting its students with more intercollegiate athletic teams than any other Michigan community college, MCC will now compete in 18 sports. The national governing body will be the NJCAAE, a branch of the National Junior College Athletic Association.  Read more about MCC’s newest team.

Asaline Scott ’90 and Samuel Callen ’08 Receive Alumni Awards

Asaline Scott, whose long career in banking has been matched by her generous community advocacy, is the Muskegon Community College 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.  Samuel Callen ’08, the Vice President of Strategy for Worldpay by FIS, the world’s leading global payments provider is the 2022 Alumni Achievement Award recipient.  Meet Asaline Scott and Samuel Callen.

MCC Student Newspaper Wins Five Statewide Awards

Muskegon Community College’s student newspaper, The Bay Window, won five 2022 journalism awards from the Michigan Community College Press Association (MCCPA), which recently announced the honorees online.  Read more about the Bay Window.


Consumers Energy STEM Lab Grand Opening on May 5

Leaders from Muskegon Community College and Consumers Energy will celebrate the grand opening of the Consumers Energy STEM Lab on Thursday, May 5, at 2 p.m. The event will be hosted at the Lakeshore Fab Lab and Consumers Energy Foundation STEM Lab, 388 West Clay Avenue, in downtown Muskegon.  Get event details.

President’s Leadership Series Concludes May 10 

Ellen Jeffries and Bill Bowerman, two former Michigan Senate Fiscal Agency administrators, will discuss “The Michigan Legislature and the Appropriations Process” on Tuesday, May 10, at Muskegon Community College.  Get event details.  


Pre-K-12 Students STEAM Along the Lakeshore May 7

Students from pre-K through 12th grade will converge on downtown Muskegon on Saturday, May 7, to take part in a variety of science, technology, engineering, art and math activities during the first-ever STEAM Along the Lakeshore, a free event.  The first 1,000 students and children will receive a free backpack, a STEAM kit, and a t-shirt.
