Community Says ‘Farewell’ to President Nesbary

Over 250 campus and community members joined Dr. Dale K. Nesbary and his family for his retirement celebration on Thursday, June 2.  In lieu of retirement gifts, President Nesbary encouraged contributions to the Dr. Dale K. and Connie Nesbary Endowment, which currently rewards excellence in musicianship and encourages the study of music at MCC, or to the Foundation for Muskegon Community College Emerging Needs Endowment to ensure MCC’s quality education for future generations of students.  See event photos and/or make a contribution in honor President Nesbary’s legacy.

Donna Brazile to Address 25th Annual Unity Breakfast on June 10

Graduates Celebrated at Outdoor Commencement Ceremony

Muskegon Community College celebrated the class of 2022 with a drive-through graduation ceremony on May 4.  188 students participated in the ceremony.  See photos from the MCC 2022 Commencement Ceremony.

Dr. John Selmon Begins Tenure as New MCC President In July

The Muskegon Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to select Dr. John Selmon as the new college president during a special board meeting in April.  Dr. Selmon currently serves as the Provost/Executive Vice President and has been with the college for 11 years.  He will assume office on July 1, 2022, when Dr. Dale Nesbary officially retires after 13 years in office.  Read more about John Selmon and the search process

Pioneering Surgical Tech Degree Apprenticeship Launches

Working in collaboration with West Michigan Works! and several Michigan community colleges and hospitals, MCC launched a new surgical tech program in May.  It is the first health care associate degree registered apprenticeship in the United States.  Read more about the surgical tech degree at MCC.

Student Art and Design Exhibit Opens in Overbrook Gallery

The 58th annual Muskegon Community College Student Art and Design Exhibition in the Overbrook Art Gallery runs through September 8.  Free and open to the public, the exhibit highlights outstanding artwork by MCC’s art and design students over the past academic year.  Art and design faculty selected the featured artwork from among several thousand pieces produced by the students. Overbrook Gallery is open 8:30am-4pm Monday-Thursday.  Read about the exhibit.

Students Earn Academic Honors

MCC places full-time students who achieve a 4.0 grade-point average on the President’s List.  Full-time students who earn a 3.5 gpa are placed on the Dean’s List (or on the Academic Honors List if attending half-time).  See those who earned these honors for the Winter 2022 semester.
